Nights at the Museum!

A super, scientific evening was had by all who attended the first in a series called “Nights at the Museum,” happening the last Friday of each month at the South Florida Science Museum. Damaged in the wake of Hurricane Wilma’s wrath and tucked away for almost five years, the Observatory at the South Florida Science Museum re-opened its door on August 27th.

The 14 inch F-11 Schmidt-Cassegrain optical Celestron telescope sits in the Museum’s dome which opens and rotates to allow for the best views of the stars and planets.  In addition to this telescope, other astronomy fans brought their own telescopes and set them up on the patio of the museum, giving good views of various stars and planets.

The museum presented other interesting “ScienTerrific” activities including exciting electrons, a shark dissection and touch tank demonstrations. Chick-Fil-A provided free dinners and free popcorn was handed out too. For more information, visit the South Florida Science Museum’s website, http://www.sfsm.org.
